My father got me on a bicycle when I was 12 years old, around the same time my family had moved across the country to the Bay Area. It was an old creaky road bike from the 80’s, a red Bridgestone. My mother had passed away the same year, so naturally I began riding it as much as I possibly could. Eventually I began racing and competed for about eight years before I moved to Boulder and picked up my first camera. It was love at first sight. I soon discovered that my camera had a unique ability to tell stories- real stories about the people and culture around me and what it meant to all of us. I found myself wanting nothing more than to capture the moments that made me love cycling the most and share them with my community. Years later, though my communities have shifted, my goal is the same. Every day I strive to explore and share stories from the people I meet and the places I go. Deep down, I know it’s what truly makes me happy.
My name is Ben Cook, and this is my work.
